The successful candidate in this role will be responsible for processing of payroll for approximately 320 employees across 15 departments (salaried and fortnight) via SAGE Pastel Payroll.
APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Min 2 – 3 years’ experience in Payroll Office, performing all payroll functions
- Completed tertiary HR qualification will be an advantage
- Previous payroll experience gained within hospitality & tourism industries will be an advantage
- Excellent knowledge of SAGE Pastel Payroll
- Excellent skills using MS Excel
- Must be honest with experience in working with sensitive employee information confidentially
- Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system
- General Financial skills and knowledge of Employment Law
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and under pressure
- Deadline driven

- Good interpersonal skills and communication skills – ability to liaise at all levels
KPA’S
Payroll
Process the entire payroll cycle - linking new employees’ salaries, overtime, tips, commission, processing terminations, promotions, pension fund contributions and deductions for staff loans or savings;
o Assist HODs with preparation of salary sheets, rate calculation and general BCEA requirements which would influence payment
o Review and ensure accuracy of approved overtime, commission and tips
o Payroll run and recon of Payroll Summary before submitting bank transfers for payment
o Handle employee queries regarding payroll discrepancies.
Reporting & Recons
o EMP201 reports and writing of journals on Pastel Evolution
o Writing of general monthly salary journals on Pastel Evolution for the Accounts Department.
o Recon and allocation of each employee’s salary to the correct general ledger account.
ESS (Employee Self Service) online system
o Update and maintain
o Set-up and assist employees with queries
o Sync and process data between ESS and Payroll
o Processing all leave, including unpaid leave
Pension fund
o Process pension fund on payslips (employee + company contributions)
o Recon monthly payroll contributions to pension fund report and confirm for payment.
Tax
o Responsible for all tax directives
o Monthly payment to SARS of EMP201
o E@syfile – bi-annual submission of EMP501
o Check and assist with the salary schedule and UI2.7 for UIF claims
General
o Responsible for the coordination between payroll and human resources, to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data
o Maintain employee records; ensure that employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis
o Keep abreast with company policies and tax legislations that impact on remuneration.
