Job Description: Assistant Winemaker

Purpose: The purpose of the role is to aid the winemaker.

Duties and responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • conducting grape maturity analysis,
  • monitoring fermentation processes
  • participating in wine blending activities
  • Control stock of bulk wine
  • Prepare relevant information for SAWIS for wine certification
  • Responsible for internal purchase orders
  • Ensure cellar hygiene meets the required standard
  • Responsible for cellar maintenance
  • Ensure that cellar is IPW & WIETA compliant
  • Line management of interns and cellar workers
  • Oversee bottling of wine 
  • Forklift Driving      
  • Inventory management,
  • cellar staff supervision, record keeping& general cellar administration
  • assisting in the maintenance of machinery and equipment                 

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in winemaking.
  • Thorough understanding of winemaking principles and techniques, encompassing grape growing, harvesting, and fermentation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to collaborate within a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and capability to work independently.
  • Possession of own reliable transport and a valid driver’s license.
