Job Description: Assistant Winemaker
Purpose: The purpose of the role is to aid the winemaker.
Duties and responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- conducting grape maturity analysis,
- monitoring fermentation processes
- participating in wine blending activities
- Control stock of bulk wine
- Prepare relevant information for SAWIS for wine certification
- Responsible for internal purchase orders
- Ensure cellar hygiene meets the required standard
- Responsible for cellar maintenance
- Ensure that cellar is IPW & WIETA compliant
- Line management of interns and cellar workers
- Oversee bottling of wine
- Forklift Driving
- Inventory management,
- cellar staff supervision, record keeping& general cellar administration
- assisting in the maintenance of machinery and equipment
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology.
- Minimum of two years of experience in winemaking.
- Thorough understanding of winemaking principles and techniques, encompassing grape growing, harvesting, and fermentation.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to collaborate within a team.
- Basic computer proficiency, including knowledge of Excel and Word.
- Meticulous attention to detail and capability to work independently.
- Possession of own reliable transport and a valid driver’s license.
