Moya Meaker Wines, located in Elgin is seeking an assistant viticulturist to join their team.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Managing and working alongside the labour team, both permanent and contract labour.
Coordinating all vineyard practices and harvest activities in conjunction with the winemaker and carrying out tasks accurately and timeously.
Overseeing the development of new vineyard plantings and all the associated actions such as: soil preparation, weed control, irrigation management, soil amelioration, planting etc.
Vineyard health monitoring across all vineyards.
Implementation and management of spray programs and fertigation programs.
Maintenance of irrigation system, stormwater drainage systems.
Data capturing, record keeping and IPW.
Job Requirements:
Degree in Viticulture and Oenology from either Stellenbosch University or Elsenburg Agricultural College.
Own reliable transport with valid driver's license. Code 10 and forklift will be advantageous.
At least 3 years vineyard management experience, especially young vine training will count in the applicant’s favour.
Willingness to work overtime.
Strong administrative skills and communication skills.
Must be physically fit to handle all aspects of the job.
