Seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Farm and Vineyard Manager

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and initiative-taking person to join our team as Farm and Vineyard Manager. The estate is focused on premium wine production, and if you have an obsession with viticulture and a strong desire to farm top quality grapes for wine, this is the place for you.

The farm manager is required to be hands on in the vineyards and work closely with the small permanent team. They must exhibit traits in motivating, inspiring, and enhancing the skills of the vineyard team, whilst prioritizing increased productivity and output.

The farm/vineyard manager will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best local and international viticultural consultants.

Working conditions will require the farm manager to work outdoors, and during peak season weekend work will be required. Task setting and prioritizing of crucial work is very important, we will expect the ideal candidate to spend 90% of his/her time working with the team in the vineyard.

 Job description / duties:

Ensuring all vineyard practices are undertaken timeously with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Manage and oversee all practices pertaining to the vineyard including but not limited to:
    • Pruning, canopy management during growth season, crop quality control, sampling during harvest season, vineyard planting and replacement, spray scheduling, weed management, fertilization, young vine training, maintenance of dripper lines, irrigation implementation and scheduling, data capture of vineyard performance, record keeping of all practices, IPW certification
  • Maintenance of farm equipment (tractors, boreholes, pumps, generators etc.)
  • Management of the permanent staff (record keeping of leave, health and safety training, discipline)
  • Road maintenance and general upkeep of farm and buildings
  • Control alien plant clearing
  • Implement fire prevention measures
  • Maintain and evaluate records of farming activities
  • Security and public safety

The farm manager will need to work closely with the winemaker and cellar master as well as viticultural consultants.


  • Relevant qualification – Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute or Stellenbosch University
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role with a focus on quality wine production
  • Proficient in English and Afrikaans (spoken and written)
  • Computer skills
  • Drivers license
  • Own transport
  • Self-starter, hardworking and ability to give clear and concise instruction
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Continues learning and self-improvement
