Vrede en Lust is a family-owned and managed wine and hospitality business. Our business is built on a rich heritage and a commitment to excellence, comprising three main divisions:

  1. Farming: Grape production.
  2. Wine Production: Wine making, marketing, and sales.
  3. Hospitality: A 20-bedroom boutique hotel with a focus on high-end weddings, and two on-site restaurants.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Financial Manager to join our dynamic team. This role reports directly to the Managing Director.

Location: Simondium, Cape Winelands, South Africa


  • Financial Oversight & Reporting:Manage the entire financial cycle for the winery, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial statement preparation (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement).
    • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for the wine industry.
    • Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and payroll functions.
    • Work closely with internal teams (production, sales & marketing and hospitality) to understand financial implications of business decisions.
    • Prepare financial reports for management and ownership, highlighting key metrics and trends.
  • Cost Management & Analysis:
    • Analyze production, distribution, and marketing costs to identify areas for cost savings and improvement.
    • Develop and monitor cost-effective strategies inventory management.
    • Implement cost controls and variance analysis procedures.
  • Financial Planning & Strategy:
    • Create and manage annual budgets, incorporating production forecasts, sales projections, and marketing plans.
    • Develop long-term financial models to support business growth initiatives.
    • Prepare financial feasibility studies for capital expenditure projects (e.g., new equipment, vineyard expansion).
    • Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions to secure funding as needed.
  • Industry & Regulatory Knowledge:
    • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, regulations, and tax implications specific to wineries.
    • Oversee compliance with alcohol and beverage control regulations.
    • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and suppliers.
  • General
  • Management of the Administration team
  • Manage logistics of sales.
  • Manage general company administration as needed.


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and  Finance. Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or equivalent will be preferred.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in financial management, preferably within the wine industry or a similar agricultural business.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory management practices.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling and forecasting software (e.g., Excel, specialized winery software, example  Ezywine).
  • Ezywine experience will be a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various departments.
  • Ability to work independently and as team leader to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Manage and mentor the finance team responsible for debtors, creditors, and inventory management.
  • Passion for the wine industry and a desire to contribute to the success of a growing business.
