Head Chef (Wine Estate Stellenbosch)

A well-known wine estate in Stellenbosch is currently seeking to recruit an experienced, talented and creative Head Chef to join our dynamic team. The chosen candidate will be responsible for the task of crafting new menu’s and achieve the highest standards in quality, presentation, and flavour for our restaurant, events and functions.

Other duties will include overseeing kitchen staff, supervising food preparation, and collaborating closely with the management team and suppliers to elevate our culinary offerings.

Key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage full kitchen operations and planning
  • Stock control and costings
  • Adhering to hygiene regulations
  • Implement dynamic operational working procedures, to ensure the delivery of service excellence
  • Creativity and ability to execute seasonal & function menus
  • Ability and confidence to communicate with customers, staff & suppliers
  • Training chefs and kitchen staff

Skills and competencies

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Able to function within a team
  • Strategic planning and organising

Knowledge and Experience

  • 3-5 years in a similar position or a Senior Sous Chef ready for the next step
  • Experience working with food and wine pairings
  • Advanced culinary skills including food preparation and other cooking best practices
  • Experience in the food and wine industry
  • Marketman experience beneficial
