Procurement Manager - Citrus - Port Elizabeth

Established fruit exporter, based in Port Elizabeth, seeks to employ an experienced Procurement Manager with a strong background in sourcing of citrus fruit from South Africa for export markets.  The ideal candidate must be capable of supporting the company’s dynamic and fast-paced environment and have the ability to cooperate in a diverse team. 

Requirements

• Tertiary Qualification preferably in in Agriculture, Logistics; Finance or Marketing
• Experience in procurement and program management of fresh fruit, specifically citrus
• Experience in growing sales
• Proven record of ability to build strong business relationships
• Product knowledge of citrus
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the fruit industry
• Computer literate, especially Microsoft Office

Job Description

• In co-operation with the commercial team, compile, execute, and manage procurement strategies to meet the group objectives
• Expand the fresh fruit sourcing footprint of the company and grow citrus export volumes of the group
• Manage current and new business relationships with growers effectively
• Price negotiation

• Ensure timely and effective communication between the procurement team, operational and commercial team
• Ensure all produce is packed and delivered as planned with regular follow ups on progress.
• Continuously acquire information on the availability of product, changes in supply, and trends within the area in relation to quality, timing, volume, and weather
• Grower Communication: Provide regular market updates to growers, with regular check-ins to discuss the market situation and expected outcomes.
• Grower Presence. Position based in Port Elizabeth to source fruit from growers in Patensie and Sundays River Valley regions, but will also require travelling to Limpopo, Mpumulanga and Western Cape to source fruit from growers in those regions.
• Partnership Development: Build strategic partnerships with growers to secure a consistent supply for retailers.
• Work closely with the Quality team to ensure fruit packed meets the customer specifications
• Ensure all administration related to suppliers is accurately completed
• Communication of QC reports to the growers
