Job purpose:

Overseeing the maintenance and repair of all equipment, buildings and facilities within and around the Packhouse. Ensuring optimal performance, supporting lean manufacturing principles by streamlining the maintenance processes and minimizing downtime. This role includes managing a team, coordinating with other departments, and implementing preventive and corrective maintenance strategies aligned with budget requirements. By adhering to industry standards, the Maintenance Manager will lead the team to "Operational Excellence".

Key Accountability Areas

Operations:

  • Supervise, coordinate and plan preventative maintenance schedules on equipment, machinery and buildings
  • Organizing and coordinating the material and human resources required to complete jobs 
  • Assist with the installation of new equipment and seamless integration of new systems 
  • Participate in establishing work schedules. Ensure that the schedules are correctly executed 
  • Ensure forklifts (fleet) maintenance, repairs, and services 
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration 
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making 
  • Implement and promote practices that enhance energy efficiency and sustainability in
  • maintenance operations.
  • Energy Management 
  • Parts availability management.
  • Communication and Reporting
  • Identify and address potential issues before escalation by keeping open lines of communication with all departments.
  • Establish feedback loops to continuously improve communication and processes.
  • Management
  • Develop and implement a proactive/preventative maintenance strategy 
  • Planning, managing and controlling the maintenance budgets 
  • Manage and oversee workshop and spare parts area 
  • Managing and planning a digital maintenance system (CMMS)

Compliance

Ensure all compliance-related maintenance tasks, including certification (COC), services and repairs, are completed as required 

Adherence to policies and regulations

Health and Safety

Ensure the efficient and safe operation of all materials and handling equipment 

Ensure safety protocols are followed and implemented 

Risk mitigation and hazard management

Manage staff performance, discipline, and training 

Succession Planning

Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 

Strong mechanical, electrical and maintenance knowledge and experience 

Relevant Trade qualification is essential 

Minimum 5 years as a qualified artisan in a production environment, with electrical experience suited to a production environment.

Basic knowledge of plumbing, refrigeration, boiler making, rigging, etc.

Experience working in the Agricultural Packhouse industry will be advantageous

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines 

Proven MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)

Proven skills in electrical planning, wiring, fault finding, and maintenance of motors, drives, gearboxes, conveyors, etc.
