2025 Harvest Internship and Assistant Winemaker Opportunity at Morgenhof Wine Estate - 12000

Morgenhof Wine Estate seeks two dedicated, passionate individuals to join our team for the 2025 harvest season. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain valuable experience in a premium wine production environment. After the internship is completed, one of the two interns will be considered for a longer-term role as Assistant Winemaker.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grape Sampling and Analysis: Assist with vineyard sampling, testing grape ripeness, and preparing reports for harvest decisions.
  • Harvest Operations: Support the winemaking team with grape reception, sorting, and crushing operations.
  • Fermentation Monitoring: Monitor and record fermentation data for lab analysis, including temperature control and sampling.
  • Barrel Work: Learn and participate in barrel work, including topping, racking, and preparing barrels for ageing.
  • Cleaning and Sanitization: To maintain winemaking standards, ensure equipment, tanks, and cellar areas are clean and sanitized.
  • Pressing and Pumpovers: Assist with pressing grapes and performing pump-overs to manage cap formation during fermentation.
  • Laboratory Assistance: Help with basic lab duties, including measuring sulfur levels, pH, and other essential chemical parameters.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Viticulture and Oenology.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, as required during harvest.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a passion for wine.
  • Physical ability to perform cellar tasks and lift up to 25 kg.
