Opstal Wine Estate, a well-established family-owned business in Slanghoek Valley near Rawsonville, is seeking a Financial Officer to join their vibrant team. This role offers a unique blend of financial administration and limited tasting room responsibilities, making it an exciting opportunity for an organised and detail-oriented candidate. The job incumbent will play a key role in maintaining financial accuracy, compliance, and administrative efficiency while contributing to customer engagement in the tasting room.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Administration

  • Manage the full creditor’s function, including invoice processing and supplier payments.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations and financial reporting
  • Oversee the clocking system to ensure accurate timekeeping records
  • Administer the bi-weekly payroll and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Maintain and manage the compliance management system, ensuring adherence to industry and legal standards, including WIETA, SIZA and Global GAP
  • Assist with reception duties, including handling incoming calls and correspondence
  • Ensure efficient document management and record-keeping
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to labour compliance and safety regulations

Tasting Room Operations (Limited Scope)

  • Assist in conducting wine tastings and providing customer education on Opstal’s wine offerings
  • Promote wine sales and ensure excellent customer service
  • Perform stock takes and maintain accurate inventory records


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Matric (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification
  • One to 2 years’ financial administration experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience in the wine industry will be advantageous
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and cloud-based accounting systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Afrikaans
  • Well-organised, detail-oriented, and able to work efficiently under pressure
  • Strong administrative skills with the ability to improve and implement systems
  • Excellent communication and professional interaction skills
