Kendrick Recruitment is now seeking a Head of Engineering and Facilities for a prestigious luxury wine estate situated in the heart of Franschhoek. This pivotal role requires a highly skilled, hands-on leader with a strong technical background, capable of managing complex operations, engineering systems, and a multidisciplinary maintenance team across a large hospitality and agricultural estate.

Salary: R48,000 – R60,000 (Negotiable DOE)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and upkeep of all estate infrastructure, facilities, and utilities

  • Lead the engineering and facilities team, providing direction, support, and development to ensure optimal performance

  • Manage preventative maintenance schedules for buildings, machinery, HVAC, water systems, electrical and mechanical installations

  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all equipment and facilities, including health and safety standards

  • Oversee capital projects, refurbishments, and infrastructure upgrades from planning through to execution

  • Liaise with external contractors, suppliers, and service providers to ensure quality and cost-efficiency

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, cost control measures, and procurement planning

  • Ensure sustainability and environmental standards are maintained and improved across all operations

  • Conduct risk assessments and emergency planning procedures for the estate

  • Support cross-departmental needs relating to events, hospitality operations, and production requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil), Facilities Management or a related discipline

  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in a similar leadership role within luxury estates, hospitality, or industrial environments

  • Sound understanding of building services, utilities, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general estate infrastructure

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • Excellent project management and financial acumen

  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality standards

  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making capabilities

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficient in MS Office; experience with maintenance software systems advantageous

  • Valid driver’s licence essential
