Cape Town based Steenberg Vineyards are seeking a dynamic Assistant Winemaker to join their team. The successful candidate will assist the Cellar Master with the entire winemaking process, from grape receival to the final bottling preparation of Cap Classique and premium still wines. This role requires ensuring that all processes are carried out in a cost-effective manner, meeting set standards and timelines, and maintaining the necessary record-keeping and documentation.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education: Degree / Diploma in Viticulture and / or Oenology
Additional Qualifications:
- Course in Wine Technology
- Computer Skills (MS Office / Wine MS)
Work Experience:
- Knowledge of / and understanding of the winemaking
- At least 2 years’ hands-on experience in wine processing and product
- Familiar with various quality control systems e. IPW, BRC, HACCP, FSSC, SAWIS, WIETA)
As the Assistant Winemaker, you will be responsible for:
- Product processing / Preparation (Involved in making wine from pressing to bottling)
- Coordination (Daily coordination with Cellar Master regarding winemaking process)
- Manage Manpower / Personnel (Supervision of Cellar personnel)
- Coordination with Production Team (Work closely with Production Manager and Team)
- Loss control
- Safety / Environmental Management
- Presentation of wine tastings
Required Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (Afrikaans and English)
- Passion and commitment to producing quality wine with a creative drive to be innovative
- Highly analytical and observation skills
- Ability to perform well in both a team context and individually
