Muratie Wine Estate, one of South Africa’s most historic wine estates, is seeking a talented Sous Chef to support our culinary team in creating exceptional dining experiences that complement our world-class wines.

Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape
Position: Full-time

About the Role:

As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen, maintain high culinary standards, and contribute to menu development. You will play a key role in bringing creativity, consistency, and excellence to every dish served at Muratie.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in planning, preparing, and presenting menu items.
  • Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, ensuring efficiency and adherence to hygiene standards.
  • Maintain consistent quality and presentation of dishes.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and stock control to minimize waste.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food hygiene regulations.
  • Support special events, tastings, and estate functions as required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a fine dining or high-volume kitchen.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Passion for seasonal, high-quality ingredients and innovative cuisine.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Culinary qualification or formal training is preferred.
