Kifaru Winery is looking for a strategic and experienced General Manager to lead our wine import and distribution business in Tanzania. In this senior role, you will have full responsibility for operations, sales, distribution, and financial performance. Working closely with the CEO, you will drive growth, strengthen customer and supplier relationships, and ensure operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, results-driven leader with strong experience in distribution, sales, and team management.

Kifaru Group through its’ distribution companies in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, and our specialist wine store and wine bar The Wine and Cheese Shop in Dar es Salaam, imports, distributes, sells, and serves fine wine, high end spirits, artisanal cheese, and other deli products.
We have offices, distribution centres and warehouses in Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Zanzibar.
We began our journey as an importer and independent distributor in 2021, to fill a gap in the Tanzanian market for good quality wines and deli products. Our focus mainly lies on boutique wines from family-owned vineyards, wines with extraordinary value-for-money, as well as some larger producers with outstanding quality wines. We also stock and sell a range of international spirits.
Our hand-picked selection of wines ranges from affordable, every day, great value for money wines, all the way to top tier iconic wines. Quality being our focus above all else when we select a wine to add to our portfolio.
In addition to selling beverages and other products we also support our customers with training and capacity building.

Key Responsibilities
As General Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the business, including:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the company’s growth strategy, aligned with market trends and organizational goals.
- Monitor business performance, mitigate risks, and capitalize on opportunities.
- Lead market research, competitive analysis, and business development initiatives.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee end-to-end distribution, logistics, and supply chain management.
- Optimize warehouse operations, inventory management, and delivery processes.
- Implement robust operational systems, processes, and policies.
Financial & Performance Management
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Ensure profitability while maintaining high service standards.
- Report regularly to the CEO and Board on financial performance and operational metrics.
Sales & Customer Engagement
- Drive sales growth and align distribution strategy with market demand.
- Build strong relationships with key customers, retailers, and hospitality partners.
- Represent the company at industry events, wine tastings, and conferences.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, motivate, and mentor a high-performing team.
- Establish performance goals, conduct reviews, and develop succession plans.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Regulatory & Quality Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all local and international regulations for alcohol distribution.
- Maintain high-quality standards for storage, transport, and delivery of wine products.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Business Management qualification is preferred.
- Previous work experience in Tanzania or the East African region is a significant advantage.
- Proven work experience as General Manager or similar executive role.
- Working experience in fast moving consumer goods or liquor businesses is preferred.
- Experience in Sales and marketing is a plus.
- Experience in import/export, logistics and shipping is a plus.
