Abingdon Wine Estate, located in Lions River, KZN is seeking a Viticulturist/Farm Manager to join their team. Abingdon is the leading pioneering estate in KZN, now 21 years old. The ideal candidate, in conjunction with our team, will serve a key role in overseeing the day to day running of the farm with a key focus on vineyard management and development for premium wine production.
This is a challenging role that will give candidates a unique perspective on extreme viticultural conditions. KZN has been earmarked as a region of focus for future South African expansion in the wake of climate change. Working alongside the family and our small team on a 4ha vineyard, candidates have an opportunity to experience both vineyard and cellar practices and work closely with our winemakers.
Duties will include (but not be limited to): *Managing and working alongside the labour teams *Coordinating all vineyard practices and harvest activities, in conjunction with the Cellarmaster and carrying out tasks accurately and timeously *Overseeing the management and health of the vineyard and all the associated actions such as, soil preparation, weed control, canopy management, pruning. *Implementation and management of spray programs *Data capturing, record keeping and IPW *Upkeep and maintenance of farm equipment and infrastructure *All other tasks related to the role.
Essential minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:
- A degree in Viticulture and Oenology
- Minimum 2 years' vineyard management experience
- Excellent administrative and communication skills
- Own reliable transport with valid drivers license.
- Willingness to work overtime, especially during the harvest season.
