We are seeking an experienced Production Manager with a strong background in label or print manufacturing to lead our production team in Stellenbosch. The ideal candidate will ensure efficient production operations, maintain high quality standards, optimise workflows, uphold safety protocols, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Plan, organise and oversee daily production activities in the label manufacturing facility.
- Manage production schedules to ensure on-time delivery and optimal utilisation of resources.
- Coordinate with pre-press, printing, finishing and packing teams to meet production targets.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve throughput.
Team Management
- Lead, mentor and develop production staff, including supervisors, machine operators and assistants.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching and manage disciplinary processes.
- Foster a positive culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous learning.
Quality Control
- Enforce strict adherence to quality standards for print, colour consistency, die cutting, laminating and finishing.
- Work closely with quality assurance to monitor key metrics and corrective actions.
- Support ISO/GMP or other relevant certification compliance if applicable.
Process Improvement & Reporting
- Analyse production data to identify bottlenecks and improve efficiencies.
- Implement and monitor KPIs (e.g., productivity, OEE, scrap/rework rates).
- Prepare regular production reports and escalate issues proactively.
Health, Safety & Maintenance
- Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with occupational health & safety standards.
- Lead safety meetings and risk assessments.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance with the technical/engineering team.
- Ensure Food Safety Regulations are adhered to.
Supply Chain Coordination
- Communicate with procurement on raw material availability (polyester, paper stocks, adhesives, inks, etc.).
- Support inventory control to minimise stockouts or excess.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in production management — preferably in labels, flexible packaging, printing or related manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of flexographic, digital and/or rotary screen printing processes.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production planning tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
