About the Role

We are looking for an energetic and passionate Assistant Front of House Manager to support our Hospitality Manager and take hands-on responsibility for the daily operation of our tasting room. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment, enjoys engaging with people, and has a genuine passion for wine and exceptional guest experiences.

You will work closely with fellow Assistant Front of House Managers and be fully trained across both tasting room and restaurant operations to ensure seamless service delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily tasting room operations and lead the floor during service

  • Deliver and maintain exceptional service standards during high-volume periods

  • Host wine tastings, VIP guest experiences, lunches, and cellar/trophy room tours

  • Lead, motivate, and support tasting room assistants and waitstaff

  • Coordinate guest flow, seating, front desk operations, and incoming calls

  • Assist with stock control, stock takes, ordering, and variance reporting

  • Drive wine sales and contribute toward achieving and exceeding sales targets

  • Support functions, tastings, events, and marketing activities

  • Assist with cash-ups, admin controls, and opening/closing procedures

  • Ensure cleanliness, maintenance reporting, and adherence to operational standards

Wine, Sales & Training

  • Inspire staff through ongoing wine education and training

  • Confidently communicate the Ernie Els Wines brand story and vintages

  • Promote upselling and position the tasting room as a key revenue driver

  • Handle cellar door and international order processes accurately


Desired Experience & Qualification

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a winery tasting room and/or restaurant environment

  • Supervisory or assistant management experience in hospitality

  • Strong leadership, communication, and guest engagement skills

  • Passion for wine, hospitality, and service excellence

  • Relevant qualifications advantageous (Hospitality Management, Cape Wine Academy, WSET, etc.)
