The Workshop Assistant is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining agricultural machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance. This role is crucial for supporting Orchard Agri’s customers by delivering reliable service and maintaining the quality standards of the workshop. This position will work on a variety of machinery, including tractors, sprayers, harvesters, and other specialized agricultural equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repairs:

    • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on agricultural equipment.
    • Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, filter replacements, and general inspections.
    • Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer standards and customer expectations. 

Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:

    • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify equipment issues.
    • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical faults.
    • Test equipment post-repair to ensure it is fully operational

Workshop Operations:

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
    • Follow all safety protocols and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
    • Assist with inventory management, including ordering parts and tracking stock levels.

Customer Service:

    • Communicate with customers to understand equipment issues and provide updates on repairs.
    • Offer technical advice and recommendations for equipment care and maintenance.
    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through professional service.

Record-Keeping:

    • Complete detailed service reports and documentation for each job.
    • Maintain accurate records of parts used and labour hours for billing purposes.
    • Provide feedback on recurring issues to improve service processes.

Skills:

  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience as a mechanic in an agricultural, heavy equipment, or similar industry.
  • Education: Red Seal qualification in Agricultural Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics or Fitter and Turner qualification or studying towards relevant qualification.
  • Industry Knowledge: Hands-on experience with a variety of agricultural equipment brands and models and/or motorbike.
  • Other requirements: A valid driver’s license is essential, as the role will require occasional travelling to customer sites as needed.  
  • Candidate must be physically fit, capable of handling heavy equipment parts, stand for extended periods and able to work in various weather conditions.
