Local Market Sales Manager - Fruit Industry

My Client is looking for a candidate with strong market knowledge, commercial instinct, and a hands-on approach to join their domestic market team.

Reporting to the General Manager: Domestic Market, you will take ownership of national municipal market channels, managing Class II and processing-grade fruit sales, with citrus as the core commodity. The role also covers mangoes, avocados, kiwis, and other selected fruit lines.

Key Accountability Areas

  • Execute local market sales strategies for their brands
  • Manage and negotiate pricing, product placement, and daily market performance
  • Engage closely with packhouses to ensure quality, specifications, and stock flow
  • Liaise with market agents, customers, and packhouses on dispatches and arrivals
  • Conduct regular market visits to benchmark product, pricing, and competitors
  • Handle quality challenges and provide clear feedback to depots and packhouses
  • Support promotional activity and in-market brand presence
  • Identify new market and supply opportunities
  • Compile weekly performance, price, and quality reports

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Sales, Business Administration, or similar)
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant industry experience
  • Valid driving licence
  • Solid knowledge of the South African fresh fruit industry (citrus experience preferred)
  • Understanding of municipal markets, trading dynamics, and agent structures
  • Strong commercial and administrative skills
  • Comfortable working independently, travelling regularly, and operating remotely
  • Detail-driven, organised, and able to manage multiple moving parts
  • Team player with leadership potential
