Location: Franschhoek, Western Cape
Position type: Full-time (weekends & peak-season hours required)
Reports to: Chief Distributor of Liquid Happiness (Tasting Room Manager)

About BEV

Black Elephant Vintners is a fast-paced, guest-centric boutique winery in Franschhoek. We’re known for bold wines, big personality, and our signature wine + music pairing experiences. If you thrive with people, energy, and a bit of organised chaos — you’ll fit right in.

Role purpose

You’ll be the heartbeat of the guest experience and support the tasting room with strong day-to-day operations — ensuring the space is always guest-ready, service is smooth, and sales opportunities aren’t missed.

Key responsibilities

Tasting room operations (daily)

  • Opening and setup: signage, layout, cleanliness, wine readiness (reds/whites/bubbles), water & cooldrinks
  • Music & Silent Disco readiness: music system setup, headphone charging/checks, basic troubleshooting
  • Keep the tasting room “retail ready”: tidy counters, clean tables, organised fridges, restocked price lists & brochures
  • Closing and reset: charging devices, shutting down systems, securing the venue, noting incidents/breakages

Guest experience

  • Host tastings with confidence and personality (warm, high-energy service)
  • Guide guests through tasting options clearly (Festival / Golden Circle / Backstage)
  • Upsell naturally: bottles, cases/bundles, MCC, merch, and club membership

Stock, orders & admin support

  • Assist with stock control, basic stock movements, and “what’s running low” reporting
  • Help pack trade and online orders accurately (labels/invoices matched)
  • Comfortable using payment devices and basic POS tasks (YOCO / e-commerce support)

Events support

  • Assist with events, festivals and activations when required (including weekends/public holidays)

Requirements

  • 1–2 years experience in hospitality, retail, tasting room, restaurant, or customer-facing sales (wine experience a bonus, not a dealbreaker)
  • Confident communicator with strong people skills (friendly, calm, solutions-focused)
  • Reliable and organised (can follow checklists and keep standards consistent)
  • Comfortable standing for long periods and working in a busy environment
  • Willing to work weekends / peak season hours

Personality fit

  • Warm, charismatic, presentable — you enjoy making people feel welcome
  • Sales-minded but not pushy (you can read the room)
  • Hands-on attitude: you don’t wait to be asked, you just get it done

Remuneration

Salary: based on experience and in line with industry norms.
