TOPIARY Wine Estate, based in the Franschhoek area, is seeking a driven and talented Assistant Viticulturist (possibility of assisting occasionally in the cellar) to join their team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated junior individual with an eagerness to grow and learn within a dynamic, quality-focused and small size winery. The successful candidate has strong team management abilities, along with excellent communication-, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
* Assist in management and monitoring of daily production activities
* Assist in supervision of irrigation, fertilization, pruning, plant health, and harvesting
* Accurate record-keeping and regular reporting to the manager
* Implementation and maintenance of management and production systems
* Collaboration with the Manager in planning and execution
* Labour management and performance monitoring
* Will actively participate in all daily tasks of a working wine farm (pruning, shoots selection, debudding..)
* If interested can assist in the cellar with basics works such as bottling, labelling, blend,...
* Eager to learn every challenges we face in a small winery
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- Degree/Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology, or similar qualification;
- Minimum 2 years’ cellar or wine farm experience (experience in production will be advantageous);
- Good computer proficiency (MS Office, SAWIS experience will be advantageous);
- Willingness to work hours as per wine production requirements;
- Eager to work outside
- Forklift license/experience will be advantageous but not required
- Own reliable transport.
The ideal candidate can work independently as well as in team (and manage it), is self-motivated, can perform under pressure and will need to show initiative and leadership qualities, that will enhance and help grow the farming activities.
