Situated in the heart of Franschhoek, Eleven Restaurant is dedicated to exceptional culinary experiences, celebrating local sourcing, outstanding contemporary cuisine, and a world-class wine list. We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and energetic Sommelier to join our team. If you have a deep love for South African viticulture, a refined palate, and a natural knack for hospitality leadership, we want to hear from you. 

Key Daily Duties & Responsibilities

  • Wine Stewardship: Managing our wine list, maintaining pristine cellar organization, tracking inventory, and ensuring correct storage conditions.
  • Guest Engagement: Recommending and serving wine pairings on the floor, sharing the stories behind the labels, and elevating the overall guest dining experience.
  • Team Mentorship: Leading brief daily staff briefings, conducting regular wine tastings/education sessions for the waitstaff, and helping to manage floor flow and service standards.
  • Front-of-House Support: Assisting with floor supervision during service to ensure seamless teamwork, guest satisfaction, and standard operating procedures are met.
  • Basic Administration: Assisting with beverage invoicing, updating the wine list across platforms, tracking average beverage spend, and collaborating on stock control reports.

What We Are Looking For

  • A certified Sommelier qualification (e.g., WSET, or South African Sommelier Association equivalent).
  • Proven experience working in a fine dining or premium restaurant environment.
  • Strong knowledge of global and South African wines (particularly Western Cape and Swartland regions).
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to managing and motivating waitstaff.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort with restaurant administration (POS systems, stock management software, or spreadsheets).
  • Flexibility to work hospitality hours, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays.
