Paarl

Location: Winery situated near Paarl, Western Cape

We're a small, quality-focused wine business looking for an exceptional person to join our team.

This is not a traditional assistant winemaker role. You'll work directly alongside the winemaker and be involved in every aspect of a growing premium wine business—from vineyard to bottle, client relationships to exports, cellar operations to brand representation.

If you're looking for a role where every day is different and where you can grow into increasing responsibility, we'd love to hear from you.

Minimum Requirements (please do not apply if you do not meet these criteria)

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in Oenology, Viticulture or a related field.

  • A minimum of 2-3 years' practical winery experience.

  • A valid South African driver's licence.

  • Your own reliable transport.

  • Eligibility to work in South Africa.

Applicants who do not meet these minimum requirements will not be considered.

The role

Working closely with the winemaker, you'll be involved in every facet of the business, with a strong focus on winery operations. Responsibilities include:

  • Winery operations throughout the season.

  • Vineyard visits, harvest planning and fruit assessment.

  • Producing wines for both our own labels and contract winemaking clients.

  • Building and maintaining professional relationships with production clients.

  • Cellar administration and record keeping.

  • Stock management.

  • Export order preparation and logistics.

  • Forklift operation.

  • General winery maintenance and housekeeping.

  • Brand representation at tastings and events.

  • Occasional shifts in our tasting room.

  • Rolling up your sleeves and helping wherever needed to keep a small business moving forward.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for wine and vineyards.

  • Is self-motivated and takes ownership of their work.

  • Has a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.

  • Enjoys physical, hands-on work.

  • Is organised, detail-oriented and dependable.

  • Is eager to learn and develop across all aspects of the business.

  • Can comfortably move between technical winemaking, administration and practical tasks.

  • Is happy to travel for work when required.

  • Understands that in a small business everyone contributes wherever needed—whether that's making blending decisions, meeting with clients, driving the forklift, packing export orders or cleaning the cellar.

Forklift experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

What we offer

This role offers genuine responsibility from day one and exposure to every aspect of running a premium wine business. You'll gain experience in vineyard management, winemaking, contract production, exports, logistics, events, customer relationships and business operations.

We're looking for someone who wants to build a career, not simply fill a position. If you're adaptable, curious, hardworking and excited by the opportunity to grow alongside a small, ambitious wine business, we'd love to hear from you.

Please send your CV together with a short cover letter explaining why this opportunity appeals to you and what you believe you'll bring to the role.

If you have not heard from us in 2 weeks from applying please consider your application unsuccessful.
