Somerset West: My client, a prestigious luxury hospitality property is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of the property. This hands-on role requires a finance professional with hospitality experience who can provide accurate financial reporting, maintain strong financial controls, and support operational departments in achieving sound financial performance.
Purpose of the Role: To manage the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring accurate reporting, effective financial controls, budgeting, cash flow management, statutory compliance, and operational financial support. The successful candidate will work closely with management to provide meaningful financial insight and assist in driving profitability and informed business decisions.
Key Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Analyse financial performance against budgets and forecasts
- Monitor revenue, expenditure, profitability and departmental performance
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure sound financial controls
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to management
Finance Operations
- Oversee creditors, supplier reconciliations and payment processes
- Manage cashbook processing, bank reconciliations and petty cash controls
- Monitor debtors, outstanding accounts and collections
- Review payroll information and related financial journals
- Ensure accurate month-end journals, reconciliations and general ledger maintenance
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control
- Coordinate annual budgeting and financial forecasting
- Monitor cash flow and financial performance
- Assist department heads in managing budgets and controlling expenditure
- Analyse variances and identify opportunities to improve profitability
- Monitor stock, cost of sales and revenue reporting across departments
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure VAT and statutory submissions are completed accurately and on time
- Coordinate year-end audit preparation and supporting documentation
- Maintain the fixed asset register and monitor capital expenditure
- Ensure compliance with company policies, legislation and internal controls
Operational Support
- Partner with operational departments to provide financial guidance and support
- Assist management with financial planning and commercial decision-making
- Identify financial risks and recommend process improvements
- Build strong working relationships across the business
Criteria
- Relevant qualification in Finance, Accounting or Bookkeeping
- At least 5 years’ previous experience as a Finance Manager, Assistant Financial Manager, Management Accountant or similar
- Hospitality or hotel industry experience is essential
- Strong knowledge of management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
- Sound understanding of creditors, debtors, payroll, VAT, reconciliations, stock control and month-end procedures
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong financial systems knowledge
- Experience on hotel and accounting systems such as Opera, Protel, Micros, Lightspeed, Pastel, Xero or similar would be advantageous
- Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Professional, confidential and able to work effectively with both finance and operational teams
