Kanonkop Wine Estate is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking individual to join our cellar team for the 2027 Harvest Season.

Situated in Stellenbosch, Kanonkop is one of South Africa’s leading wine estates, with a strong focus on producing premium, site-expressive wines. This internship offers the successful candidate the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience across all aspects of the winemaking process during one of the busiest and most rewarding times of the year.

The internship will run from January 2027 to April 2027.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • BScAgric, BAgric, BSc or related qualification in Viticulture and Oenology, Winemaking, or a relevant field.
  • A strong interest in premium wine production and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced cellar environment.
  • Willingness to work long hours, weekends and public holidays when required during harvest.
  • Own accommodation and reliable transport in the Stellenbosch area.
  • A valid forklift licence and previous cellar or harvest experience will be advantageous, but are not essential.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will gain practical experience and assist with, but not be limited to:

  • Receiving and processing grapes.
  • Assisting the winemaking team with day-to-day cellar operations.
  • Conducting routine laboratory analyses.
  • Assisting with cellar hygiene, cleaning and housekeeping.
  • Monitoring and managing fermentations.
  • Performing cellar additions and wine movements.
  • Operating and assisting with presses and other cellar equipment.
  • Punch-downs and other fermentation-related cellar work.
  • Racking and transferring wine.
  • Barrel filling, emptying and general barrel work.
  • Data capture.

This is a physically demanding position and requires someone who is reliable, energetic, adaptable and willing to get involved in all aspects of harvest.
