We are seeking a reliable, hands-on and hardworking Maintenance Attendant to join our hospitality team. The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the property, ensuring that guest areas, staff facilities and general infrastructure are maintained to a high standard.
The ideal candidate will have a practical approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve maintenance issues efficiently while providing excellent support to the wider hotel team.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance
- Carry out daily maintenance, repairs and minor installations across the property.
- Assist with basic plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical maintenance.
- Inspect guest rooms, public areas, staff facilities and surrounding areas to identify maintenance requirements.
- Attend to maintenance requests promptly and ensure all work is completed to a high standard.
- Assist with the repair and maintenance of air-conditioning units, water heaters, doors, windows, furniture and other property fixtures.
- Assist with the maintenance of water systems, lighting, irrigation and general building infrastructure.
Property & Grounds
- Maintain gardens, pathways and outdoor areas to ensure the property remains clean, safe and well presented.
- Identify and report any hazards, defects or potential maintenance issues.
- Ensure tools, equipment and materials are properly cleaned, stored and maintained.
Preventative Maintenance & Safety
- Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to prioritise daily tasks and preventative maintenance requirements.
- Report potential breakdowns, hazards and safety concerns immediately.
- Follow all occupational health and safety regulations, hotel procedures and maintenance standards.
- Maintain a safe and organised working environment at all times.
Events & Departmental Support
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of conference facilities, banqueting areas and outdoor event spaces when required.
- Provide maintenance support to other departments as needed.
- Assist with special projects and additional maintenance requirements across the property.
- Be available for standby duties, after-hours emergencies, weekends and public holidays according to operational requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Handyman, Maintenance Attendant or Maintenance Assistant, preferably within a hotel, lodge, resort or estate environment.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and general building maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain hand and power tools.
- Physically fit and comfortable performing manual and practical work.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and standby duties as required.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Professional appearance and good personal hygiene.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
