Vacancy – Workshop Boilermaker

An Engineering company based in Wellington is currently recruiting for a hands-on Workshop Boilermaker to join the team.

The Company provides specialized fabrication and engineering services to various industries such as agriculture, mining, wine, food, and other commercially focused industries.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fabrication, welding, maintenance, and repair work on various projects for said industries.

Key Workshop Responsibilities

Workshop boilermakers execute precision fabrication by handling the following core duties:

1. Blueprinting and Marking Off: Interpreting complex engineering drawings and technical specifications to precisely calculate, map, and layout patterns (developments) directly onto raw metal sheets or structural steel.
2. Material Preparation & Cutting: Operating industrial machinery such as guillotine shears, plasma cutters, band saws, and oxy-acetylene torches to cut steel plates and pipes to exact dimensions.
3. Metal Manipulation: Utilizing rolling machines, section benders, and hydraulic press brakes to form flat plates into cylindrical, conical, or specialized curved structural elements.
4. Assembly and Fit-up: Aligning, clamping, and tack-welding components together according to strict dimensional tolerances before final welding.
5. Quality Control & Safety: Checking components for warp, checking weld preparations, and adhering to strict occupational safety standards like the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.

 Requirements

1. Trade Test Certificate as Qualified Boilermaker
2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in workshop fabrication, welding.
3. Strong knowledge of Arc and CO2 (MIG) welding.
4. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
5. Ensure compliance with all safety standards and procedures.
6. Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
7. Work closely with Engineers and workshop staff.
8. Operate all workshop equipment and tools safely.
9. Personalized hand tools to be provided. All electrical and welding equipment will be provided.
