The Opportunity

Warwick Wine Estate is appointing a Seasonal Commis Chef for the summer season, from October 2026 to April 2027. The role works within the kitchen brigade, supporting the Chef and Sous Chef in preparing the sections for daily service and holding the quality and freshness standard on every plate that leaves the kitchen. It covers preparation, stock rotation, quality control and hygiene across assigned sections, alongside a working knowledge of the full menu.

What You'll Do

  • Food Preparation
    • Assisting the Chefs in preparing all sections for daily service, ensuring ingredients and equipment are ready and available, and that the prep in assigned sections is fresh, complete and of excellent quality before service begins.
  • Stock Ordering & Rotation
    • Providing the Sous Chef with weekly orders in good time, and assisting with stock rotation on a first-in, first-out basis to maintain freshness.
  • Stock-Taking
    • Participating in regular stock-taking procedures and reporting variances to the Sous Chef.
  • Quality Control
    • Checking that all food items in the assigned sections are fresh, correctly stored and meet the required quality standard.
  • Hygiene & Food Safety
    • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in all assigned sections in line with food safety standards, and reporting any breakages, faults or hazards immediately.
  • Menu & Product Knowledge
    • Knowing the recipes on the menu and executing every dish to the established Warwick standard.

Who You Are & What You’ll Need

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • One to two years' experience as a Commis Chef or Kitchen Assistant is preferred.
  • A certificate in food preparation or culinary arts is advantageous.
  • Sound time management, with the ability to meet deadlines in a busy kitchen.
  • Strong organisational skills, and the ability to identify problems and put workable solutions in place.
  • Effective communication, the ability to follow instructions accurately, and a professional approach to resolving differences within the team.
  • Able to stay focused and hold the standard under pressure.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
  • Own transport, or own arrangements to travel to and from the estate for shifts ending after public transport hours.
