Rupert and Rothschild Vignerons, an iconic brand in the global wine industry, based in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley is currently recruiting. We are looking for a fixed-term Tasting Room Assistant for the upcoming season, for a 6-month period (October 2026 – March 2027).
The successful candidate will report directly to the Hospitality Manager. This role involves a combination of tasting room responsibilities and traditional waiter duties, including serving tables and providing excellent guest service.
Key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
• Receiving of visitors and company guests;
• Daily tasting room wine sales, wine tasting and tours;
• Provide information regarding company products and general knowledge on the South African wine industry;
• Daily cash-up and wine stock counts in Tasting Centre;
• Assisting with special tastings and company functions and events, internal or external;
• Responsible for always keeping the tasting centre neat and tidy;
• Always be presentable as an ambassador of the brand;
• Serving tables and supporting restaurant staff during busy periods;
• Clearing, resetting, and presenting guest tables according to standard;
• Conduct food and wine pairings when required;
• Liaising with kitchen and restaurant staff to ensure smooth guest service;
• Ensuring high standards of service in both the tasting and dining areas;
• Assisting with any ad-hoc duties.
Skills and competencies:
• Strong attention to detail;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Able to function within a team;
• Able to work in a fast pace environment;
• Following instructions.
Requirements:
• Grade 12;
• Relevant Wine qualification/certificate;
• 2-years previous experience in the wine and hospitality industry;
• Excellent Wine knowledge;
• Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanour;
• Flexibility to work during the week, weekends, festive season, public holidays, and evenings as needed;
• Own reliable transport to and from work.
