UniWines Vineyards is offering a 6-month Viticulture Internship for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who wants to develop their practical skills and broaden their understanding of commercial viticulture. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a diverse range of grape varieties, wine styles, vineyard conditions and vine management systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPOSURE
- Assist with the monitoring and management of commercial vineyards throughout the growing season.
- Gain practical experience in vine management, canopy management, irrigation, nutrition, pest and disease monitoring and crop management.
- Participate in vineyard inspections, maturity monitoring and harvest preparation.
- Gain exposure to different grape varieties and wine styles and how vineyard practices influence wine quality.
- Assist with vineyard classification and quality assessment.
- Collect and analyse vineyard and harvest data to support viticultural decision-making.
- Work with producers and the viticulturist to identify and address vineyard challenges.
- Gain experience working within a large-scale commercial grape supply environment.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a relevant qualification in Viticulture.
- Is passionate about viticulture and the wine industry.
- Is eager to learn and develop practical vineyard skills.
- Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Has good communication and organisational skills.
- Is able to work outdoors and adapt to varying vineyard conditions.
- Has computer literacy, including MS Office.
- Has a strong interest in the relationship between vineyard management, grape quality and wine production.
- Holds a valid driver's license.
Starting date: Ideally be available from 1 Dec 2025
Duration: 6 months
Location: Breedekloof Valley, Western Cape
