Harvest Assistant (Fixed-Term Contract)

Jakkalsvlei Private Cellar, situated in the scenic Garden Route just outside Mossel Bay, is seeking a Harvest Assistant to join their team for the 2027 harvest season.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, detail-oriented, reliable and punctual, with the ability to work well in a team and perform under pressure - essential qualities for this role.

Contract period: January until end of April 2027

Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

• Assisting the winemaking team with daily operational cellar activities.
• Ensuring general cellar equipment sanitation and cellar hygiene.
• Handling additions and monitoring fermentation.
• Uploading and unloading of pallets with a forklift.
• Recordkeeping.
• Taking sugar samples in the vineyard.
• All other tasks related to the role.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

• Diploma/Degree in Viticulture and Oenology will be to the candidate’s advantage;
• Previous harvest and/or cellar experience will be advantageous;
• Driver's license required (forklift license and own reliable transport will be advantageous);
• Willingness to perform physical labour and work after-hours and weekends as required.
