We import and supply barrels from the esteemed Austrian cooperage Fassbinderei Schneckenleitner with roots dating back to 1628.
Our barrel pre-orders for the upcoming season have concluded but we will also import a few extra barrels for stock (10 × 300L Medium Toast) that are available for immediate allocation. Enquiries for the remaining stock barrels are welcome should you also be interested in conducting your own benchmark trials.
Oak: These vessels are crafted from fine-grain Austrian oak (Quercus petraea). The staves are naturally air-seasoned for three years outdoors next to the Ybbs River in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, nestled in the foothills of the Austrian Alps.
Seasoning: This unique riverside location benefits from the region’s high precipitation, cool Alpine humidity and rich biodiversity. The extended natural seasoning allows gradual microbial activity and gentle leaching of harsher tannins, resulting in a refined, elegant oak profile that supports fruit purity, freshness and minerality without overpowering the wine.
