Located in Agter-Paarl in the heart of the Boland of the Western Cape, Perdeberg is situated in one of the finest wine-growing regions of the Cape.  Perdeberg is renowned for its innovation, dedication to excellence and multi-award winning wine portfolio. 

Perdeberg is seeking to appoint the services of a Destination Manager with a creative mind and an entrepreneurial spirit to take control of the development and management of their Wine Centre, including the picturesque function, tasting and conference venues. The candidate must be a highly motivated, fully bilingual individual with a strong personality, and sales and organizational skills. A relevant tertiary qualification and knowledge of South African wine are pre-requisites for the position.     

Main function

To effectively manage the Perdeberg tasting room and facilities in line with its growth strategy and brand ambitions, whilst generating profitable revenue for the Wine Centre as an independent profit centre.  To make Perdeberg a destination of choice for the wine loving public.   

Key responsibilities:

DESTINATION:

  • To compile and implement business plans to develop the facility as a profit centre, in support of the business strategy.
  • To promote Perdeberg as a destination via appropriate marketing channels in order to attract visitors and influence brand perception.
  • To plan and arrange events and functions in line with external and internal client requirements alongside the restaurant.
  • To plan and control the day-to-day operations including procurement, inventory, facilities maintenance and work scheduling and assignment.
  • To implement financial controls to ensure profitability.
  • Determine and implement service excellence standards, and monitor & evaluate delivery.

CELLAR DOOR TASTING & SALES:

  • Controlling sales, stock and cash including related systems and administration.
  • Coordinating the staffing and service levels in the Tasting Room including work schedules, procedures and service/product training.
  • Maintaining an attractive tasting environment and enjoyable tasting experience.
  • Serve as liaison between property and restaurant.
  • Managing the direct sales of the Wine Centre and Off-Site Tastings, as well as customer enquiries, bookings and online sales orders.
  • Grow the customer database.
  • Coordinating and hosting pourings, tastings and other wine and hospitality related events including specifying requirements, contracting with internal and external service providers, venue set-up and clean-up, regulatory requirements etc.

Minimum requirements

  1. A recognised 3-year Hospitality or Business related qualification
  2. A formal wine related training certificate would be an advantage.
  3. 5 years’ experience in coordinating wine sales and tastings preferably at a cellar door venue.
  4. 5-years’ experience in successfully managing a function venue that accommodates a capacity of 150+ guests.
  5. Experience in establishing, marketing and developing a similar business.
  6. Experience in managing a team of reporting staff members.
  7. Hospitality experience in the wine industry is a must.
  8. Must be able to work flexible working hours.
  9. Own transport.
