An exciting opportunity has opened in the Hemel-en-Aarde region for a qualified Wine Farm Manager with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in the field. Working with cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay will be an advantage. The ideal candidate must be organized, detailed oriented and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Candidate must be bilingual in both Afrikaans and English.

 In return a market related salary is offered with housing on the farm and an opportunity to work with a leading Vineyard Consultant.

 The Farm Manager will be responsible for the management of the farms day to day operations, maintenance and harvests. This is a hands on position. Sound knowledge and working experience required in the following areas:

  • Manage all aspects of estate grape production, currently 46 hectares of planted vines.
  • Budgeting, finance, cost management and financial record keeping.
  • Planning daily, weekly, monthly activities in accordance with production requirements and in conjunction with spray and fertilizer programs.
  • Coordinate all Farm administrative functions, including the collection and management of pest management records, human resource documents, farm payroll, internal accounting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Supervision of labour and the management of the team, including handling all human resource requirements.
  • Recruitment and training of workforce.
  • Maintaining a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them.
  • Ensuring that the farm meets projected financial targets.
  • Organising maintenance/repair of all properties, equipment and machinery within the company.
  • Buying supplies for all actions taken in the vineyard.
  • Maintaining and monitoring the quality of yield.
  • Understanding the implications of the weather and making contingency plans.
  • Crop protection.
  • Facilitate research and development to improve fruit quality and reduce production cost.
  • Direct harvest logistics in collaboration with Production Leadership Team to increase wine quality and process efficiency.
  • Actively participate and working directly with senior leaders of the company to develop and execute high level plans.
  • Act as the liaison between the company and 3rdparty grape buyers, and cultivate relationships.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends as required during peak periods.
