Viticulturist - Libertas Vineyards and Estates

Applications are invited for the above mentioned position, based at Nederburg in Paarl. Reporting to the MD Nederburg Cluster the viticulturist will manage the operations of the vineyard, including soil management, irrigation, disease and weed control and oversee general vineyard growing activities.

 What will you be up to - 

  • Provide technical information and advice including policy, guidelines and SOPs on all matters of viticulture
  • Provide advice and recommendations on vineyard inputs in response to monitoring programmes
  • Provide input for the development of ‘world class’ vineyards using a scientific approach including detailed evaluations of climate, soils, water etc.
  • Manage the LVE tender/ procurement process for vineyard input materials
  • Provide viticulture expertise to grape producers for grape supply in line with LVE’s strategic direction.
  • Negotiate market –related prices.
  • Provide an effective and efficient viticulturist support and advice to suppliers to ensure improved business results
  • Provide solutions and innovations that contribute to problem solving
  • Build & maintain a good working relationship between LVE, Distell and its producers.
  • Perform all administrative duties related to this position.
  • Manage the OPEX Budget within the set targets

To be brilliant in this role, you will preferably have –

  • Relevant BSc Degree
  • Extensive knowledge of viticulture and wine preparation
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Well-developed negotiation skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Be able to communicate at all levels
  • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite
  • Knowledge of the SAP system would be advantageous
  • Be able to work independently and cope under pressure
  • A valid driver’s licence
