Cold Gold Artisan Ice Cream was established by Janine van Zyl, a highly qualified chef, sommelier and Cape Wine Master student, 8 years ago. She is currently looking for a new premises to move her factory to attract more feet to an existing destination venue/farm-specifically Paarl, Stellenbosch or Franschhoek or surrounds.

She can also help to invent unique wine ice creams and sorbets as well as consult in ice cream and wine pairings-to bring a new experience to clientele-new or existing.

Here is a little bit of background about Cold Gold and how it all started:

Creator, owner and producer Janine's homemade ice cream and sorbet creations are all natural and delicious with absolutely no chemicals, preservatives, artificial flavourings, artificial colourings or stabilizers.

Cold Gold Artisan Ice Cream was launched in November 2011 by qualified chef, Janine Van Zyl. Janine obtained the Grande Diploma in Culinary Studies and Wine from the Prue Leith Chefs Academy in Pretoria with distinction and  worked at the Mount Nelson- and Twelve Apostles – Hotels with highly respected chefs Rudi Liebenberg and Henrico Grobbelaar respectively. The culinary genius of these mentors fuelled her passion and love for the culinary world and still inspires her to new creative heights.

Janine identified a need for an ice cream that is 100% natural, free of preservatives, chemicals and artificial additives. So she took the best natural ingredients available, added a bit of passion, a dash of perfection, a tablespoon of dedication and a big chunk of love, and started producing artisan ice creams and sorbets from her small flat - and Cold Gold was born.

She initially started selling Cold Gold at markets and when chefs and connoisseurs got to know the product her market grew to include restaurants and deli’s. 

With the business growing it became impossible for Janine to do everything from fetching milk and eggs at farms, picking cherries and strawberries, making ice cream, packing and deliveries to cleaning, marketing and bookkeeping by herself. She therefore went to great lengths to train friendly, efficient staff that are as passionate about her product as she is. The Cold Gold Concept:

1. To introduce South Africa to REAL ice cream & sorbet made with 100% natural local seasonal ingredients

2. To support small local businesses, entrepreneurs & farmers as far as possible & empower them to grow their business as Cold Gold grows

​3. To make ice cream according to any dietary requirements, ice cream makes people happy and everybody deserves to be happy

4. To empower local previously disadvantaged women by offering them jobs and training them to become pastry chefs while earning a salary to support their families

5. To be an earth-friendly business by only using bio degradable packaging, saving water & electricity, having absolutely no wastage of ingredients and recycling all wet-, dry- and compostable matter

6. To make a big donation yearly (in the form of ice cream) to a charity that supports & rehabilitates abused women & children
