Ernie Els Wines situated in the Helderberg region of Stellenbosch is opening a “BRAND NEW KITCHEN” and will be able to serve 140 seats. We are looking for a young dynamic and enthusiastic person to support the Executive Chef with running the kitchen & maintaining all standards set by Ernie Els Wines Management. 

This is a hands-on roll, from running a shift to cooking in the line, plating on the pass, working with our own dry aged steaks, food orders, stock takes, food cost, herb garden, menus, training, maintain the highest standards of food quality, kitchen hygiene and presentation.

Must have well-rounded knowledge of all areas of the kitchen from starters, mains to desserts and is still willing to learn.

Candidates must be able to work 6 days a week during peak season and on Public Holidays if required. 

Candidates must have own transport, be well-groomed, hard-working, passionate about food, and have excellent interpersonal skills. 

Prior wine pairing with food experience will be advantageous but not essential.  


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with keep the food at the highest quality standards.
  • Assist and oversee preparation, food hygiene & cleanliness
  • Assist with the butchery & Grill works
  • Assist with Dry Ageing Steaks
  • Assist on the pass & service
  • Assist with kitchen orders & stock takes
  • Assist with storerooms & fridges
  • Assist with menu designing & understanding food cost                                                            


Qualifications and experience:

  • Culinary Arts Diploma
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in a restaurants or hospitality in a senior position.
  • Exception proven ability in establishing and managing a high-end kitchen.
  • Good understanding of useful computer programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS).
  • Must have experience & be proficient in a la carte cook.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills in English.

Excellent Planning and organising; Problem solving; People’s Management and Decision making skills; be Client and Service orientated and be able to handle highly pressurised conditions
