Front of House Managers/ Assistant Managers (Restaurant/ Tasting Room) 2 Positions - Market related

Ernie Els Wines situated in the Helderberg region of Stellenbosch opened a “NEWLY RENOVATED TASTINGROOM AND RESTAURANT” end September 2020. The restaurant is able to serve 140 seats. We are looking for young dynamic and enthusiastic persons to support the Hospitality Manager. 

Purpose: The purpose of this positions is to execute the delivery of the entire Ernie Els Wines hospitality experience, to meet and exceed customer expectations in the Tasting room and Restaurant, wine and food offering, to execute Functions, and to assist the Hospitality Manager and Executive Chef to manage and control the pool of hospitality staff.


  • Managing the floor and maintaining high service level of staff
  • Host tours, lunches, and tastings, especially for VIP groups
  • General waitron duties and tasks
  • Hosting Cellar and Trophy Room Tours
  • Assist Hospitality Manager with ad hoc tasks
  • Assist Hospitality Manager in arranging functions, meetings, staff functions, marketing functions, conferences etc
  • Liaise with kitchen regarding operations in Tasting room and Restaurant
  • Provide training for a high level of service in the Tasting Room/Restaurant
  • Be aware of Security, Health and Safety at all times.


  • Conducting opening and closing duties of tasting room
  • Assist Hospitality Manager in managing the Tasting Room/Restaurant staff
  • Assisting in stock take, control and reconciliation of the Tasting room stock and Restaurant stock
    • Notify Hospitality Manager if stock is required or any tasting room item
    • Stock take and reconciliation of wine and merchandise
  • Responsible for daily cash up
  • Report maintenance issues in Tasting room/ Restaurant to Hospitality Manager
  • Ensure that cleaner/housekeeper is operating effectively

Sales & Marketing:                        

  • Checking that all details on shipping forms are filled in correctly
  • Drive sales targets and motivate Tasting Room and Restaurant staff to do the same

 Qualifications and experience:

Matric/ Front of House and/or Wine Service Courses will be an advantage (Cape Wine Academy)

FOH Manager: 3- 5 years’ Experience in a winery Tasting room and Restaurant 

FOH Assistant Manager: 2- 3 years’ Experience in a winery Tasting room and Restaurant 


Write & Speak English fluently

German speaking will be an advantage.

Computer skills: MS Office/ Point of Sale


Skills required:

Customer and Service orientated; Excellent People’s Management and Decision-making, Planning and organising skills and be able to handle highly pressurised conditions   


Workdays: Shifts: Normal 5-days working week or 6-days working week if required during peak season.

Working week incudes weekends & public holidays.


Candidates must have own transport, be reliable and hard-working, passionate about food, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
