Our client, Piekenierskloof Vrugte, is a producer and exporter of citrus, stone fruit, wine grapes and rooibos tea. The group currently has an exciting opportunity for a suitable person to join them as Chief Operating Officer. 

The Chief Operating Officer reports directly to the Managing Director by providing factual information in the utilization of strategic resources. Applicable legal knowledge will benefit the candidate. Effective and adequate utilization of resources to ensure sustainable growth, as well as the management of relationships with all divisions within the company, are expected of the successful candidate. 

The position is based in the Citrusdal area and will include the following responsibilities: 



  • Evaluate investment decisions and agricultural extensions using cash flow budgets, determining internal rates of return as well as contribution to fixed costs and labour utilization
  • Preparing submissions to board
  • Preparing submissions to financiers
  • Coordinate the implementation of transactions with auditors, tax experts and the financial division of the company


  • Liaison with external specialists and consultants
  • Communicate with service providers
  • Communicate with role players in the International and SA Agricultural Industry as well as National Government

 Utilization of Infrastructure:

  • All existing land, water and staff employed at Piekenierskloof Vrugte as well as any joint ventures and subsidiaries
  • Proposed new extensions and new asset purchases


  • Liaison and ongoing communication with Management and staff
  • Liaison with Technical Staff


  • Comm or relevant tertiary qualification. LLB qualification will benefit the applicant
  • 5 - 8 years experience in general management
  • Excellent people skills, especially in team context
  • Ability for analytical thinking
  • Must be able to plan and manage projects
  • Results driven
  • Strategic thinking
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the agricultural environment will be beneficial
