DGB is one of South Africa’s largest independent wine and spirits producers. Our roots extend for over 300 years when winemaking began at Boschendal and Bellingham farms in the Cape Winelands.

DGB has identified the need to focus on growing their sales within the dynamic and exciting category of Premium Wines. The successful candidate needs to be energetic, wine-loving and passionate who are willing to fully immerse themselves into South Africa’s growing wine industry within the On Trade, Off Trade and Corporate sectors

The successful candidate will be based in Cape Town and report directly to the Trade Marketing Executive

Key Performance Areas:

Deliver new business and sales set against defined KPI targets by: 

  • Maximizing DGB’s Premium Wine portfolio via listings in the On Trade; Specialist Retail and online channels
  • Identify new business opportunities to further grow DGB’s On Trade, Corporate Customer and Wine Clubs base.
  • Work closely with DGB Winemakers to co-ordinate wine tastings, wine dinners and events, both in person and virtually.
  • Identify opportunities to grow DGB’s premium wine portfolio image at wine tastings, wine dinners and events;
  • Provide ongoing market intelligence and trends to management.
  • Identify additional selling opportunities for Premium Wine Brands – Wine Clubs, Personal Buyers, Corporates etc.
  • Deliver on quarterly KPI targets against wine sales through events, wine dinners and corporate opportunities as well as KPI targets on listings achieved.
  • Provide wine training for internal sales as well as externally for customers.

Selection requirements for the position:

  • Extensive knowledge of wines having successfully completed relevant wine courses (CWA, WSET etc.)
  • Matric with a relevant tertiary diploma/degree would be a distinct advantage.
  • Code 08 unendorsed driver’s license and be able to travel to outlying areas
  • A third language could be advantageous
  • Innovative, energetic, highly motivated and responsible, with the ability to work with minimum supervision, weekends and after hours.
  • A real passion for wine and an eagerness to learn more about the ‘wonderful world of wine’
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and good negotiating skills with sound business acumen.
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
