Twee Jonge Gezellen is an estate winery and vineyard located in the Tulbagh valley. We are seeking to employ a self-motivated, experienced Assistant Winemaker to work directly with our winemaker, and to assist in the production process of creating wine, including grape harvesting, crushing, fermentation, aging, bottling and blending.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordination of harvest activities
  • Aftercare, blending and stabilization of wine
  • Inventory control and cellar hygiene
  • Dedicated to crafting quality wines, providing value to our customers
  • Assist in supervising winery operations in relation to wine quality
  • Responsible for supervising, training, and mentoring all cellar employees during harvest
  • Conduct and manage experiments, including reporting the results, in relation to wine quality
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of the winemaking process and procedure
  • Report to the winemaker and be involved in all winemaking process, from vineyard to bottle.
  • Do basic laboratory analysis for winemaking process.
  • Understand and implement/ manage Food Safety Standards
  • Able to spend time in the trade to promote, sell and market the product for both off and on-consumption outlets.
  • Work together with sales representatives in the trade
  • Forge strong relationships with trade partners
  • Able to represent the brand on the international markets.
  • Conduct wine tastings for trade and customers

 Requirements:

Required education: Diploma / Degree in Viticulture and Oenology.

Other requirements:

  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar position.
  • Knowledge of grapes, growing regions, and local production and marketing regulations.
  • Knowledge of wine, the blending process
  • Experience with both the practical and technical aspects of the winemaking process will be advantageous
  • Fully bilingual (with English being one of the languages)
  • Strong communication and people skills
