Our winery, situated in Stellenbosch, is one of the premier wine brands in South Africa. We require the services of a suitably qualified and professional Direct to Consumer and Tasting Room Manager to lead our efforts in these important channels. The suitable individual will be presentable, be an efficient communicator, have a high work ethic and standards, and will be the dynamic centre of our efforts in these spheres of operations. Reporting to the CEO, this role will suit a candidate who is looking to cement their reputation, whilst accumulating world class wine business experience.

Role

This new role will require the incumbent to assume responsibility for consumer facing engagements in the Tasting Room, as well as Direct to Consumer engagement via a CRM system, website, and other digital platforms.

Direct to Consumer responsibilities will include

  • Lead efforts to create an effective CRM system that will integrate Tasting Room, Accounts, and DTC activities and provide monthly reporting on all CRM activities.
  • Co-ordinate, manage, and provide continuous development across all digital platforms: Website, E-commerce, Social Media, and Email newsletters.
  • Create and manage the winery’s Wine Club in line with our brand and commercial objectives.
  • Arrange, manage, and deliver appropriate Direct to Consumer events at the winery on an annual basis.
  • Provide effective monthly reporting on relevant KPIs.

Tasting Room role and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to run the Tasting Room on the winery in all respects. Their duties will include:

  • Providing a welcoming and memorable guest and visitor experience by leading the delivery of outstanding customer service.
  • Recruit, train, and manage our tasting room staff, fostering a positive and knowledgeable team dedicated to delivering service excellence.
  • Possess and impart an understanding of our wines, vineyard practices, and winemaking processes to guests and staff alike.
  • Lead the sales efforts of the tasting room team in all respects.
  • Conduct regular tastings and educational sessions to guests and staff alike.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all materials and staff.
  • Provide monthly sales analysis and reports.
  • Attend shows, events, and other activations as required.
  • Ensure that the Tasting Room facilities are staffed during all opening hours, are maintained to our standards, and that health and safety, and legal regulations are adhered to.

Qualifications required

  • At least 3 years of experience in the wine or hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrable ability to effectively lead and manager the Tasting Room team.
  • Possess the acumen and initiative to build and drive the Direct to Consumer channel.
  • Knowledge of the make-up and dynamic of the South African wine industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or similar appropriate level qualification.
  • WSET level 2 and above.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Proven experience of working with Social Media platforms, Canva, and MS Office.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Additional languages will be a bonus.

Salary

  • Commensurate with market rates and experience.
