General Manager, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with travel across Tanzania-Beverage industry

Kifaru Group is looking for a skilled and talented General Manager to run the day-to-day operations of the business across all branches in the country and guide general business strategy and contribute to company growth and success while reporting to the Group CEO and board of Directors.

The Kifaru Group is a group of companies specialized in international turn-key project development and management as well as procurement, logistics, hospitality industry, and food and beverage supply, including sale of high-quality wines, cheeses, and other fine foods and deli items. The group focus is in the Sub-Saharan African region, with presence in multiple African countries.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will play a pivotal role in steering the strategic direction and operational efficiency of our distribution network. With a focus on maximizing market share, optimizing logistics, and enhancing customer satisfaction, you will lead a dynamic team in the pursuit of excellence within the wine distribution industry.

  1. Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategic plan that aligns with the company's vision and industry trends to maximize sales/profits and productivity.
  • Regularly review effectiveness of plans and initiate appropriate action to mitigate emerging risks or secure opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, market expansion, and operational enhancement.
  • Conduct thorough market research to assess competition.
  • Work with the CEO, Directors, and Team to develop and support the implementation of Company’s strategy.
  1. Internal Systems and Processes:
  • Develop and implement operational management systems, processes, policies, and best practices across the organization.
  • Comply with and enforce company policies and practices.
  1. Distribution Network Management:
  • Manage the selection of products and oversee the stock ordering process.
  • Oversee the end-to-end logistics and supply chain processes including shipping and clearing of products.
  •  Ensure timely and efficient distribution of wine products.
  • Optimize distribution routes, warehouse operations, and inventory management to meet customer demand and reduce costs.
  • Be up to date on the distribution process, including import/export regulations and logistics for transporting and storing wine.
  1. Supplier and Customer Relations:
  • Cultivate strong relationships with wine producers, ensuring a reliable and diverse product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with key customers, retailers, and hospitality partners to understand their needs and enhance business partnerships.
  • Monitor contract negotiations to ensure effective partnerships.
  • Drive and increase customer satisfaction.
  1. Sales and Marketing:
  • Set clear goals to encourage sales and meet targets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate deliveries to clients.
  • Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to align distribution strategies with market demands.
  • Provide insights into market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities.
  • Oversee organization of and attend wine events and wine tastings, and dinners with existing and new customers.
  • Attend industry conferences and events to build networks and promote the business.
  1. Wine Industry Trends:
  • Keep the team informed about current trends and developments in the wine industry.
  • Encourage employees to stay updated on market preferences and emerging wine styles.
  1. Quality Assurance:
  • Implement and maintain rigorous quality control measures for the storage and transportation of wine products.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards for the safe handling of alcoholic beverages.
  1. Financial Management and Reporting:
  • Manage financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control and monitoring overall budget of the expenditure.
  • Ensure appropriate resources to support the implementation, development, and ongoing improvements of operations.
  • Generate regular reports on sales performance, market trends, and other relevant metrics.
  • Analyze data and implement decisions and actions to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • keep operational expenses to a minimum while maintaining efficiency and excellent customer service.
  • Regularly communicate with and prepare various reports for Group CEO and Board of Directors.
  1. Technology Integration:
  • Evaluate and implement technological solutions to enhance distribution processes, including route optimization, inventory tracking, and order fulfilment systems.
  1. Regulatory Compliance:
  • Be aware of and comply with regulations governing the production, labeling, and sale of alcoholic beverages, including age restrictions and licensing requirements.
  • Stay updated on relevant industry regulations and compliance standards for alcohol distribution.
  • Ensure the company's adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements.
  1. Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead, inspire, and mentor employees to achieve company goals and objectives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation.
  1. Employee Development and Management:
  • Plan and coordinate with HR Department staff recruitment and training.
  • Develop key performance goals and conduct staff performance review.
  • Lead and motivate the team to achieve business targets in terms of profitability and business development.
  • Develop a succession plan to ensure a smooth transition in case of promotions or departures.
  • Engage in regular one-on-one meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Address conflicts and challenges in a constructive manner, providing guidance and support to foster resolution.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Chartered Accountancy qualification is preferred.
  • Proven work experience as General Manager or similar executive role.
  • Working experience in fast moving consumer goods or liquor businesses is preferred.
  • Experience in Sales and marketing is a plus.
  • Experience in import/export, logistics and shipping is a plus.


  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of business process and functions.
