A renowned award-winning Estate in the hospitality industry, Franschhoek, is seeking an innovative, talented and creative Head Chef to take the helm of a young and energetic kitchen brigade on a full-time basis.

The successful candidate must be able to work under pressure, must be accurate, be able to give attention to detail, guest focused but also be a team player.


The candidate needs to be a passionate professional with ambition to step up, achieve and deliver World Class Standards. Be able to maintain a high standard of etiquette, professionalism, be responsible, committed to excellence, be able to work long hours (public holidays), work under pressure, be guest focused but also be a team player.


It is expected that a calm hands-on approach be applied at all times regarding Managing the kitchen, team and tasks to be done, ensuring excellent and outstanding food experiences to our guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management and development of business, overall responsibility for daily operations of the kitchen
  • Ability to manage, lead and oversee a team including all necessary training to achieve optimum quality
  • Systems and budgetary control
  • Knowledge of HR processes and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Liaising with suppliers.
  • Responsible for development of new dishes, menus and pricing
  • Follow proper safety, hygiene, and sanitation practices at all times
  • Experience in national and international establishments would be of advantage.


Requirements of applicant:

  • A proven track record in a similar role within a quality environment and to be able to demonstrate excellent standards, cooking skills and management abilities
  • A positive approach, excellent organisational skills, and a passion for producing high quality customer care.
  • Driven and ambitious to inspire the team to consistently deliver and exceed food and service standards, understanding produce and ingredients.
  • Team player, clear thinker with excellent communication skills
  • An ability to delegate appropriately and organisational flair
  • A grasp of profit margins
  • Write menus that are both creative and profitable


Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5 Years experience in a similar role advisable.
  • Formal qualifications in professional cookery, culinary arts to be beneficial
