Job Description: Sales and Marketing Manager

Purpose: The purpose of the role is to take overall responsibility for the sales and marketing function of Ernie Els Wines (EEW)


Reporting line: The position reports to the Managing Director


Duties and responsibilities:


  1. Budget and Target Management
  • Overall budgeting responsibility for sales, and marketing management for the Ernie Els Wines
  • Drive targets of the sales and marketing teams to ensure these targets are met
  • Provide feedback to Board regarding all sales and marketing activities in quarterly board meetings


  1. Sales Management

Develop and manage business plans to promote sales of EEW, including:

a)      New Business Development

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities linked to production plan
  • Identify new opportunities for establishing licence relationships

 b)     Existing sales channels

  • Manage all license relationships, including target setting with licence relationship managers
  • Manage and maintain all international and domestic sales channels
  • Manage team members to provide sales information for monthly sales reports
  • Provide the Managing Director and Board with a monthly sales report covering all sales channels
  • Development and maintain the Wine Club as a sales and marketing tool
  • Coordinate the Christmas promotions for retail in all markets
  • In conjunction with Hospitality plan purchase of EEW merchandise to be sold in the tasting room


  1. Marketing

Develop and manage business plans to promote marketing of EEW, including:

  • Proactive and reactive management of EEW Brand
  • Managing the Ernie Els Wines brand by maintaining brand integrity and driving brand evolution through all marketing, communication and packaging
  • Manage marketing platforms with marketing team, including:
    • All digital platforms: website, social media, newsletter etc.
    • Advertising
    • Public Relations
    • All collateral- brochures, table talkers, neck tags, tasting notes, label design
    • CRM and database functions
    • Marketing shows and competitions
    • All events, promotions and brand activations
    • Manage sponsorships and strategic partnerships:
      • Interface with Ernie Els Group entities especially Big Easy restaurants
      • WOSA, Stellenbosch Wine Routes etc
      • Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives

The above sales and marketing responsibilities include international travel and entertainment of agents.

 4.    Team Management

Management of the following personnel:

  • International Sales Manager - Europe and Western Cape
  • International Sales Manager - Asian Markets
  • Regional Sales Manager – Inland
  • Sales and Marketing Co-Ordinator
  • Social Media and Marketing Manager


Qualifications and experience:

BCom Marketing or related degree

Prior experience in managing sales teams

10 years’ experience in a similar role
