Guesthouse & Tasting Room Manager

Elgin Vintners, in the beautiful picturesque Elgin Valley has the following position available :Guesthouse & Tasting Room manager  to manage our 4-star Boutique guesthouse and new tasting room.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Wine tasting and sales
  • Wine Club management
  • General administration required in the tasting room
  • Tutored wine tastings and hosting wine dinners, as well as representing Elgin Vintners at events and trade shows
  • Marketing through the organizing of events to attract feet to our venue/tasting room
  • Run guest house on a daily operational basis- front office
  • Pre-sale of the Guesthouse –national and international / travel agencies / weddings / corporate market / direct marketing
  • Management, housekeeping and seeing to maintenance matters

Minimum requirements for the position include:

  • A tertiary wine-related qualification or NQF6/7 equivalent.
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Bilingual (English and Afrikaans)
  • Excellent communication skills and people management skills
  • Patient and professional at all times
  • Marketing/sales skills
  • Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and during school holidays
  • Computer literate for administrative duties (Microsoft Office, Pastel Partner)
  • Strong administration skills
  • Own transport essential.
  • Ability to run a guest house on a daily operational basis- front office
  • Possession of reliable vehicle and valid driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work on MS Excel, MS Word and Outlook.
  • Fully bilingual.
  • Matured and seasoned single individual with sober habits
  • Excellent communication skills to converse with guests
  • Delegation and management skills
  • Be flexible to work long and irregular hours which includes weekends and public holidays.
  • Strong service orientation and an eye for detail
  • Must be able to plan and host events / parties
  • Must feel comfortable to plan menus and assist with meal preparation where necessary
  • Must have knowledge of the Robertson wine valley and bigger Cape Town environs.
  • Supervise support staff, such as cooks and housekeepers, and direct their daily duties.
  • Responsible for purchasing and keeping track of inventory.
  • Responsible for overall general cleanliness and maintenance of Guest House.
  • Additional professional duties include maintaining records of incoming and outgoing guests, and attending to guests' personal requests.
  • Responsible for managing booking inquiries and seeing to reservations
  • Able to work long hours when required and seeing to guests and ensuring that everything around the guest house runs efficiently.
  • Responsible to report to the company’s management team on a regular basis and any ad hoc duties as and when required.

 To your advantage if you have: 
Experience in hospitality (2 years minimum)
Knowledge of booking platforms
Experience in team management (2 years minimum)
Experience in marketing / sales (2 years minimum)
Team player, open to change, initiative and flexibility (all required qualities to cope with the hazards of farm’s life!)

Knowledge / passion for wine
Experience in event management
