Cellar Door and Guest Experience Manager

Applications are invited for the above-mentioned position to be based at Plaisir de Merle

Brandhome. This successful candidate will report to the Commercial Manager – Nederburg


Purpose of the role:

To create and manage the ultimate luxury wine, hospitality and event experiences, to build brand

awareness and drive cellar door sales.

The Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:


• Responsible for leading the Plaisir de Merle Hospitality team

• Guide the team to uphold consistent excellence in guest service

• Manage the overall appearance of staff, tasting room, banqueting venues and accommodation, in line with brand guidelines

• Recruit and train high quality wine advisors

Develop and grow a luxury hospitality offering, including eventing, conferencing and functions and accommodation:

• Assist brand team in conceptualising the Plaisir de Merle hospitality offering, including relevant business plan

• Manage Capital Investment projects

• Create compelling brand events. Co-ordinate these events and manage budgets to ensure a ROI

• Plan, co-ordinate and execute events and functions for hospitality clients in line with service level agreements and standards

Promote and generate cellar door and wine club sales:

• Lead and grow cellar door sales performance to achieve budgeted goals

• Develop and manage a wine club offering to build increased customer loyalty

• Co-ordinate and facilitate informative wine sessions for consumers, VIP guests, trade and tour groups

Destination marketing:

• Act as an ambassador for Plaisir de Merle and the greater Libertas Vineyards & Estates

• Develop Plaisir de Merle as a destination with key tourism bodies

The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills/qualifications:

• A recognised 3-year hospitality or marketing related qualification

• 5 years’ experience in event planning, or successfully managing a function venue

• Entrepreneurial drive

• Experience in managing a team of reporting staff members

• Wine industry experience would be an advantage

• Strong commercial acumen

• Proven ability to communicate effectively

• Commitment to excellence and high standards

• Strong organisational skills

• Dedication to customer service

• Networking savvy

• Willing and able to work flexible hours in line with hospitality industry practices
