Our business in the international alcoholic beverage sector requires the services of a PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN

Position summary:

Ensure production processes are being carried out in line with the company and regulatory requirements.

Ensure production team has access to all relevant raw materials and equipment and make sure that production is running smoothly.

Play a key role in the development of new products – working closely with Operations Manager throughout all new developments.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Directs the production activities of the factory.
  • Supervises production activities ensuring proper operation and care of equipment including preventative maintenance and immediate repair as necessary.
  • Purchases packaging materials aligning deliveries with the bottling schedule to ensure adequate inventory of all bottling supplies.
  • Develops a system to ensure adequate inventory of spare parts and equipment.
  • Oversees the implementation of all hygiene and safety requirements.
  • Ensure that the production team has access to all necessary skills and equipment at the appropriate times
  • Problem Solving – need to quickly assess production issues and establish the best course of action. Troubleshoots issues with equipment or machinery. Conduct reviews of the production processes to try to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensures quality control is maintained in all aspects of production.
  • Perform routine line checks using a variety of methods, including visual inspection of the line, using lab equipment, and inspecting packaging.
  • Develop and/or assist in developing new products from concept to implementation in the factory.
  • Co-ordinate and attend trials of all products in the development phase.
  • Compile and/or assist in compiling product specifications, new product ingredient lists and all other relevant NPD documentation.
  • Manage shelf life trials of new developments.
  • Ensure new ingredients and packaging complies to all relevant legislation and internal guidelines.
  • Assist with reviewing of product labels to ensure compliance to legislation.
  • Assist with QC duties as required.
  • Be a member of the Food Safety Team and assist in internal audits.
  • Participate in production and product related problem-solving activities.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 5-year experience in food, beverage or other product development role or related capacity, ideally with a focus on dairy products
  • Previous experience in a beverage production environment will be beneficial.
  • Tech, BSc Food Science and/or Food Tech diploma
  • Technical food safety knowledge and understanding of HACCP and FSSC22000 principles.
  • Experience with facilitating the various stages of product life cycle
  • Understanding of manufacturing equipment, their processes and capabilities within a food environment
  • Good organizational skills, ability to priorities multiple priorities and strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate (verbal/writing) effectively
  • Must be quality focused and team oriented
  • Able to deliver under pressure
  • You need to be innovative.
  • Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and across other functional areas.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent attention to detail.
