Vacancy:  Front-of-House Manager

Purpose of position:

The purpose of this position is to execute the delivery of the entire Stellenzicht Wines hospitality experience, to meet and exceed customer expectations in the tasting room wine and food offering, to execute Functions, and to assist the Wine Maker/Estate Manager to manage and control the pool of tasting Room Assistants.

Please note that from time to time, Ad-hoc duties may be expected from you by management, due to operational requirements.

Reporting line:

Position reports to the Wine Maker & Estate Manager

Duties and responsibilities: 

-    Responsible for full operation of the Tasting Room

  • Managing the floor and maintaining high service level of staff
  • Host tours, lunches and tastings, especially for VIP groups
  • General waitron duties and tasks
  • Hosting Cellar Tours
  • Assist Estate Manager with ad hoc tasks
  • Assist Estate Manager in arranging functions - tasting room, meetings, staff functions, marketing functions
  • Manage operations in tasting room (e.g. if tables are full etc.)
  • Take part in the leadership team by training providing a high level of service and training Tasting Room Assistants to do the same


  • Conducting opening and closing duties of tasting room
  • Assist Wine Maker/Estate Manager in managing the Tasting Room Assistants
  • Assisting in stock take, control and reconciliation of the tasting room stock
    • Notify Wine Maker/Estate Manager if stock is required on any tasting room item
    • Stock take and reconciliation of wine and merchandise
  • Responsible for daily cash up
  • Report maintenance issues in tasting room to Wine Maker/Estate Manager
  • Ensure that cleaner is operating effectively 

Sales & Marketing:              

  • Checking that all details on shipping forms are filled in correctly
  • Drive sales targets and motivate Tasting Room Assistants to do the same
  • Promote the Wine Club to visitors
  • Gather customer details and maintain client data base
  • Provide relevant information to be published on social network sites e.g. famous people 

Qualifications and experience: 

  • Front-of-House and/or Wine Service Courses a distinct advantage (Cape Wine Academy)
  • Previous experience in a winery tasting room (non-negotiable)
