My name is Adam KERGUEN, and I am currently a second-year Master’s student in Viticulture and Oenology, specializing in Wines and Champagne at the University of Reims, France.
As part of my second-year Master’s program, I am required to complete a 4- to 6-month internship, starting at the end of January 2025. Since this internship should focus on either Marketing or Quality Control, I believe that completing it during the harvest period would be ideal. Given the timing, it is crucial that the internship takes place in the Southern Hemisphere.
I have developed a strong interest in New Zealand due to the high quality and diversity of its internationally renowned vineyards. I am particularly fascinated by the numerous innovations being tested by winemakers, whether in terms of grape varieties or vinification techniques. Additionally, the sustainable and organic approach promoted by the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand program further solidifies my interest in your country.
Throughout my previous professional experiences, I have had the opportunity to work with two major Champagne houses: Vranken Pommery and Taittinger. I was involved in their harvest laboratories, which has led me to focus on oenological quality control, the main area I would like to explore during my internship. I learned about the different stages of the winemaking process and ensured their proper execution. I also carried out all the required tests to monitor the quality of the musts from the presses and participated in their allocation to the appropriate tanks.
My ultimate goal is to become an oenologist, which requires a comprehensive understanding of various harvest and vinification techniques worldwide. Gaining new professional experience in a New Zealand vineyard, especially in an English-speaking environment, would be an incredible opportunity for me.
